HOIST OUR COLORS!

Don’t ask me how, I simply can’t tell you why. Nevertheless, I have become infatuated with the Pirates of the Caribbean especially the third video.  The East India Trading company, does that name sound familiar to historians of the Revolution, and Lord Cutler Becket has become powerful especially with the help of Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman!  Through intrigue and misdirection the British find the location of the secret pirate hideout, Shipwreck Cove, and are about to attack.  Elizabeth Swann becomes the Pirate King after being promoted to Captain and declares war on the British.  Both naval groups are set for battle with a fog between them.  A British ship appears through the fog and the pirates go crazy until the rest of the fleet appears as well.  The British fleet vastly outnumbers the pirates and now the pirates are disheartened.  The final scene prior to the battle is one which struck me as applicable to our situation today as Patriots fighting a tyrannical government.  Captain Barbossa tells Elizabeth that fighting this battle will not bring back her father and he wasn’t ready to die for such a fight. She agrees and then asks, Then what shall we die for?  She takes the center stage and following is that part of the movie I find intriguing.

“You will listen to me!  LISTEN!
The brethren will still be looking to us, to the Black Pearl to lead.
What will they see?
Frighten blige rats aboard a derelict ship. No!
No, they will see free men and freedom.
And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons and they will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do.
By the sweat of our brows and the strength of our backs and the courage of our hearts.  Gentlemen, hoist the colors.

William: Hoist the colors!
Sailor: Hoist the colors!
Sailor: HOIST THE COLORS!
Mr. Gibbs:  Aye, the wind is on our side boys. That’s all we need!”

Gentleman and Ladies, we are at war. This is not a armed conflict, yet.  Nevertheless, it as brutal a war as any armed conflict because it is a war of philosophy.  Do we follow the philosophy of the authors of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution? Or do we follow the philosophy of liberalism, Socialism and Communism? This war is and will be brutal yet, it must be fought and you and I have been chosen, maybe through God’s providence, to fight it. Both armies have deployed.  Both armies are facing each other across the field.  Both armies hold high the books which contain their philosophy – Rules for Radicals or the Bible!  The battle is here and its time to enjoin.

So, Gentlemen and Ladies, hoist our colors!  Aye, boys and girls, God is on our side and he is all we need!  HOIST OUR COLORS!

God bless America
